According to history
today’s island’s official name is Thira, although everyone knows it as Santorini. Before it was named Santorini, it’s name was Kalisti which means “the most beautiful of all”. At 1153, the British named the island Santorini derived from Santa (saint) and Irene (peace). In ancient times, the island form was round and it’s people had good relations with the people from Creta.
